HISTORY ;;

Daphne's first clear memory is of seeing the future.

Her first vision was nothing worthy of notice. A man on a black horse with a strange, tall hat, riding into Evendim with a red cloak. It was a dream like any other a four year old girl might have, simple and unremarkable. But she could remember the day, two weeks later, when that same man and that same horse actually came into town, and how her entire view of herself changed.

Born the youngest of three children to a medium and an alchemist, Daphne had old Romani magic running in her veins, but no one truly expected her to inherit the abilities, at least not in any real capacity. Her brother, Tavian, showed great promise as an alchemist, and for two children in one family to have real balance was unheard of. So when Daphne began to tell others about her visions and her premonitions, they were dismissed as the wishful dreams of a little girl who wants to be special. She was dimissed by both Roma and Megami in the town where she grew up until the first day she heard the whispers.

It was like someone speaking just out of hearing range, a murmur of sound in the back of her mind. No matter how she strained to hear them, she could never quite make out what they were saying. But she could sense power in those hushed voices, power and history.

"Speaker for the Dead," they called her, and despite the fact that she couldn't make out what the voices were saying, the Roma community of Evendim collapsed around her, shielding her from any outside harm or influence. Speakers were the most valuable, most powerful, and, especially, most rare of all the Romani magics, and the community would not let any harm come to Daphne the way it had her parents.

Throughout Daphne's childhood and early teenage years, she was sheltered and protected utterly by the Roma of Evendim. She was their princess, their pearl. Elders of the community did their best to try and train her magic, to let her connect with and hear the voices. They taught her about the concept of balance, of finding a pocket of perfect equillibrium to rest in where she would be able to make full use of her powers.

But try as they may, Daphne found herself unable to acheive the serenity they taught. And the older she got, the more difficult it became. Because Daphne couldn't help but resent the cage she was confined within, no matter how well-intentioned and with how much reverence it was fashioned. She had no freedom to make her own choices or forge her own identity. She barely knew who she was, beyond her identity as the Speaker.

Now a young woman with no more freedom or autonomy than she had as a girl, Daphne longs for a real glimpse of a world beyond the insular confines of the Roma community. She hears from Tavian how dangerous and evil the Megami are, but they have never seemed so evil to her. The voices of her ancestors bubbling just beyond the edge of her vision are as fuzzy and impossible to make out as ever, and her confinement on their behalf becomes more and more stifling every day.

PERSONALITY ;;

Daphne is shy and quiet, but very intelligent. Her confinement has allowed her for a great deal of time reading and studying, and so she has become a very well-spoken and well-learned young woman. She is reserved but not cold, serious but not severe, and she has been known to show great warmth and affection for many in the community. While she has a great deal of bitterness and turmoil beneath the surface, she's known primarily as a kind girl, easy to get along with and speak to.

She has a great deal of naivete towards the reality of what being a Roma community in the midst of a Megami civilization is really like. She's been so heavily sheltered from the reality of the abuse that her people suffer from that she has no real concept of what it's like.

She has a strong streak of romance, and while it's a guilty pleasure, she loves anything silly and sweeping and grand.

APPERANCE ;;

Daphne has dark skin and violet hair. She's short but not slightly built, and she has cerulean coloured eyes.
